NAWIC Women's Empowerment Series: CEO Roberta "Sissy" Shank
Sissie Roberts Shank started with Chas Roberts just after seventh grade, filing in the accounting office. She started doing small programming work and eventually led the company from all manual processes into the computer era. This enabled her to learn about all the different aspects of the business from a procedural standpoint.
After her father passed away in 1999, Roberts-Shank took the CEO position at Chas. In a "good 'ole boy system", where the previous leader is not only physically imposing, (6'4, 230lbs), but also very knowledgeable on all technical aspects, she was at quite a disadvantage from the onset. "They are never going to make it", seemed to be the mantra both internally and externally, but Chas Roberts did and it sent a message that no one person is more important than the success of the whole.
Roberts-Shank has had the honor to win several awards, but also believes strongly in giving back and has been actively involved in the community in several different facets. She is on several boards, including the Knight-Swift and AMERCO, and she and her dog Sam were therapy partners for several years with Gabriel's Angels. Outside of work, Roberts-Shank is an avid horse rider and competitor, but most importantly, has a wonderful husband, and three wonderful children.
Join NAWIC - Greater Phoenix Chapter on Tuesday, February 23rd as she discusses how she overcame obstacles, earned the trust and respect of hundreds of employees and became the largest HVAC provider in the state of Arizona while empowering women.
